Sleep Theory - Baby and Child Sleep Consultant
Sleep Theory
Sleep Consultant for Babies and Children
Hi, I’m Nicola, the founder of Sleep Theory, and, most importantly, a proud Mummy to Kitto, who is now 2 years old.

We've all heard it: "catch up on your sleep before the baby arrives!" or, perhaps the most frustrating, "sleep while the baby is sleeping."

During my pregnancy in 2022, I took these comments in my stride, but soon realised their impracticality. Storing up sleep for later isn't possible, and finding moments to rest while the baby sleeps is often overshadowed by "Mum guilt." We’re all thinking what else needs to be done whilst the baby is sleeping and, often, our little ones love a contact nap, pram nap or car nap! So realistically, this never happens.

With a baby who was a serial catnapper, disliked sleeping in the pram and car, relied on a dummy for comfort, and woke up at 5 am like clockwork, I found myself at my wit's end.

The early wake-ups and stressful outings were taking a toll. As my maternity leave neared its end and with a return to work as a Lawyer looming, coupled with my husband's frequent work travels, I knew we had to make a change. Exhausted and hesitant to accept help, I delved into the science of sleep and sought guidance from a sleep consultant.

It turned out to be the best investment we could have made! With some adjustments to our routine and expert guidance on self-settling techniques, our little one bid farewell to the dummy, slept more soundly in his cot, and even started to tolerate car journeys better (though he still isn't a fan).
Delighted with the results, I began sharing our journey with other Mums. This led to a "Light Bulb" moment, inspiring me to retrain as a Sleep Consultant to assist other families struggling with their little ones' sleep.

Making the bold decision to leave my 10-year career as a Lawyer wasn't easy, but I poured my heart into establishing Sleep Theory, with the sole purpose of helping other families. With my background as a Lawyer, attention to detail and analytical thinking come naturally to me. Even in my previous role, specialising in Clinical Negligence, I found fulfilment in helping clients and empathising with their situations. I am now a fully qualified OCN Level 5 Sleep Consultant.

Remember, prioritising restful and rejuvenating sleep isn't selfish—it's essential. Good sleep hygiene and quality rest are fundamental for both your baby's development and your own well-being.
